Packing List, what to pack to explore the Boyne Valley

At Boyne Valley Trails we want you to get the most out of your adventure with us in the Boyne Valley and get the most from your time exploring its ancient monuments, wild forests and meandering waterways. Our aim is that you leave the Boyne Valley with memories that will last a lifetime, a sense of adventure and a connection to this beautiful region. Our guided tours are designed to take you into the depths of the area, learning its history, exploring its stunning countryside and discovering scenic views alongside our expert guides. 

This is still an outdoor adventure and requires some preparation to ensure you have a comfortable and enjoyable experience in the Boyne Valley. To help you prepare for your visit, we have put together a list of what we advise that you bring on a day out exploring the outdoors. Whether you are on a town centre history tour or an energetic hike through the hills, here are the things we recommend you bring: 

• The basics-things you wouldn’t leave the house without. Phone, keys, wallet, money, cards, hotel room pass, charger or battery pack 
• The outfit-comfortable walking shoes or boots (if it’s a hike or a longer walk, we recommend proper waterproof walking boots), hat, sunglasses, comfortable clothing, light layers (layers are easier to remove than one heavy jumper or coat) waterproof jacket, gloves 
• The “for your comfort” items-walking pole, umbrella, sunscreen, clean socks
• The fuel-snacks, water (on longer tours, bring more than one snack) 
• The fun stuff-Camera, camera stand 
• The essentials-Backpack, plastic bags for storing rubbish, your Boyne Valley Trails tickets (we recommend e-tickets-cut down on paper if you can)  

When deciding what to pack be sure to consider the length of the tour you are on, the weather (this is Ireland so be prepared for all seasons in the one day) and your own comfort. As a bare minimum on our half-day hiking excursions, we strongly recommend water, snacks, light layers, waterproof jacket, waterproof hiking boots, hat, sunscreen, backpack and plastic bags to take your litter home with you. Oh-and your e-ticket for your tour!
