Welcome to the Boyne Valley Trails September Festival; immerse yourself in our guided walks, hikes and trails and discover the beauty, history and nature of the stunning Boyne Valley region.

Margaret (Maggie), Leavy came from the Windmill Lane in Drogheda and as a young girl she worked at the Westgate Flax Mill in Drogheda. She received her education at night time with the Sisters of the Presentation in Fair Street. Maggie became a valid member of the Fenian Movement in preparation for the Fenian Rising in Ireland against the English in the mid 1860`s.

After raising subscription funds for the incarcerated Fenian Leaders in Ireland including Jeremiah O`Donovan Rossa, Maggie departed from Drogheda for America in the mid 1860`s and travelled across New York, Ohio, Indiana and Tennessee before she settled down in Louisiana and raised her family.

Community Historian Brendan Matthews will bring this extraordinary story to life at the Barbican Centre Drogheda on Thursday evening September 18^th 2025 beginning at 8pm.
