History Tour-“Inis na Rígh-The Hidden Isle of the King

Led by Community Historian Brendan Matthews, this history tour will uncover the secrets of Inis na Rígh-the hidden Isle of the King.

Welcome to the Boyne Valley Trails September Festival 2026.

Step back to the 8th century and uncover the secrets of Inís na Rígh, the hidden Isle of the King, nestled between the Nanny River Estuary at Laytown and the Braddan River at Mosney. According to the Annals of the Kingdom of Ireland , this magical spot once hosted a royal meeting between two powerful chieftains.

Brendan will lead this captivating coastal Walk N Talk starting at the Nanny, following the golden sands to Mosney, then loop back through the Mosney Woods along a beautiful natural heritage trail, rich with wildflowers and Autumn herbs, finishing at the secluded St Patricks well at Corballis. We will discover the tales of the Goddess of the Nanny, this secret royal meeting, the Vikings in the mid-9th century and more all overlooking the Irish Sea.

This is a relaxed, laid back walk that covers many uneven terrains. Please wear suitable clothing and footwear.

Things To Know

Got questions? We’ve got answers. Here are some of the most common queries about our trails and events.

What should I bring with me?

For our forest, mountain or off-road trails, we recommend bringing water, snacks, good waterproof boots or trainers, hat and sunglasses. You may bring a walking pole if you like and please dress according to the weather-it is Ireland after all. Light layers and waterproof shoes and coat, plus some clean socks just in case.

Dogs are allowed on some of our trails and on others only guide dogs are permitted. Please read the event description carefully to see if dogs are allowed or contact us to confirm.

Yes! We include in the cost of the tickets the official Camino passport. You will collect stamps all along the Boyne Camino route and you can (if you are feeling extra adventurous) take this passport with you to complete the remaining 75km in Spain to complete a full 100km Camino.

We use Eventbrite as our ticketing partner; they process our ticket sales on our behalf. As we are a volunteer-led group, we need to add a small charge to each ticket to cover fees from Eventbrite.
