Welcome to the Boyne Valley Trails September Walking Festival.
Presented by Community Historian Brendan Matthews, this walk explores the ancient streets and laneways of modern Drogheda while diving back in time to the early Medieval period, when there existed two independent towns of Drogheda until a new town charter in 1412 unified both towns.
Explore the story from the initial foundations of Drogheda in the later 12th century, two towns emerged and became established on either side of the great Boyne River. The towns were known as `Drogheda in Meath` and `Drogheda in Oriel` with each Borough having their own Mayor, Aldermen, Prisons, Chapels, laws, etc.
Starting point is St Marys Church, Mary Street, Drogheda and tour will finish in Drogheda’s town centre.
Please note: This is a leisurely and laid-back walking tour, easy underfoot and presented in a very relaxed atmosphere.
