Welcome to the Boyne Valley Trails September Festival; immerse yourself in our guided walks, hikes and trails and discover the beauty, history and nature of the stunning Boyne Valley region.

Ellie Berry is an Irish adventurer, writer, and co-creator of Tough Soles, an outdoor project documenting long-distance walks and outdoor experiences across Ireland. Having walked every National Waymarked Trail with her partner Carl Lange, Ellie continues to explore the relationship between people and place through storytelling and endurance-based challenges. In the summer of 2023, she set a new speed record for climbing all 275 mountains on the Vandeleur-Lynam list, completing the feat in 50 days, 5 hours and 45 minutes. Her work combines a deep respect for Ireland’s landscape, encouraging others to find their own connection to the outdoors.

Tough Soles is an outdoor project founded by Ellie Berry and Carl Lange, dedicated to exploring and sharing Ireland’s landscapes through long-distance walking. Originally created to document their journey on every National Waymarked Trail, Tough Soles has since evolved into a platform celebrating adventure and the Irish outdoors. Chats & Trails event: Ellie’s talk for the Boyne Valley Walking festival will focus on her journey in the outdoors – and how anyone can find and pursue adventures of their own. Featuring her first forays into long distance walking, some of the characters she has met along the way, as well as learnings from her recent mountains project, this talk will take us through forests, along beaches, and through a lot of Irish weather!
