Drogheda’s Community Historian Brendan Matthews is back with a new walking tour as part o fthis years September Walking Festival. Brendan will take you on a 17th century Walk n Talk across the old streets & lanes of Drogheda, where he will elaborate on what was happening within the town and its surroundings during this particular period of our storied-past.
Hear the fascinating tale of the local connection with the Plantation of Ulster; the subsequent Siege of Drogheda in 1641/42, the arrival of Oliver Cromwell & his New Model Army to the town in 1649, the enforcement of the harsh Penal Laws, the execution of Oliver Plunkett and the significance & implications of the Battle of the Boyne at both local and international level
Please note: This is a leisurely and laid-back walking tour, easy underfoot and presened in a very relaxed atmosphere.
