Welcome to the Boyne Valley Trails September Walking Festival!

Discover the fascinating history of the old medieval town of Drogheda with renowned Historian Brendan Matthews.

This walk will take place on two dates; Thursday 21st September at  11:15 and Sunday 24th September at 14:45. Please double check that you are booking for the correct date.

The Walk will follow the line of the Medieval Town Walls and will take you through the narrow medieval streets & lanes where you will hear what life was like in medieval times. Hear the fascinating story of how there were initially two towns established, one on either side of the Boyne River, which were both distinctive and acted quite independently of each other before merging as one in the year 1412.

View the magnificent Saint Lawrence defensive Town Gate which still stands in the centre of the town today, along with the medieval monastic settlements and the wonderful Port area on the great Boyne River as you listen to the tales of Drogheda`s Storied Past; the dominant role played by the Religious Houses and where you will experience the size of the old medieval City of Drogheda and the great Norman Conquest that established the town in the late 12th century.

The Boyne Valley Trails September Walking Festival is sponsored by Failte Ireland and supported by Love Drogheda BID (Business Improvement District-funded by Drogheda’s ratepayers).
